About

“His folk-pop instrumentation and gentle descriptiveness… swell with warmth, lifting you to a plane of uncanny familiarity.” — Also Cool Magazine (September 2024)

“…landing somewhere in between folk, dream pop, and tropicalia/psychedelic pop. Fellow Canadian big sky folkie Jon McKiel comes to mind, as do indie royalty Belle & Sebastian and the lighter side of Stereolab…” — Rosy Overdrive (September 2024)

Trevor Sloan is a songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and collage artist from Toronto. Described as breezy and ethereal, his music infuses intimate vocals with acoustic instruments and old synths. The new album Sparrows Sing While Leaves Decay (available May 22, 2026) drifts between mellow folk-pop and cinematic mood music, evoking the feel of a lost 1970s soundtrack.

Since the early 2010s, Trevor has been writing and recording music inspired by singer-songwriters of the 60s and 70s and countless contemporary artists. Influences include the likes of Donovan and Italian film composer Piero Piccioni, but his music has been compared to more modern artists like Sufjan Stevens. He has released six albums under his own name (previous music was released under the moniker Phono d’enfant).

The songs from Sparrows Sing While Leaves Decay capture scenes of nature, love and heartbreak with a certain worn-in feeling. Both personal and universal, the lyrics recall hangouts from youth, camping trips, visions of the future and fragments of seasons where young lovers and moody teenagers emerge. Trevor recorded the album over a year and half in his home studio before taking it to the House of Miracles to be mixed and mastered by long-time collaborator Andy Magoffin.
